CGPA vs Percentage — What Indian Employers Want
CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is a grading system used by universities to evaluate a student's overall academic performance across semesters. In India, the 10-point CGPA scale is most common, especially post the UGC's push for grading-based evaluation.
Most Indian competitive exam boards and employers still prefer percentage. When you see "minimum 60% in graduation," you need to convert your CGPA to percentage using your university's official formula to check eligibility.
For UPSC and SSC: There is no minimum percentage requirement for graduation eligibility, so CGPA doesn't need conversion. But for RBI Grade B, CAT (IIM), and some PSU jobs, a percentage cutoff exists — you must convert.
Tip: Always use your university's official multiplier. Don't just multiply by 10 or 9.5 blindly, as it could lead to wrongly claiming eligibility in your application form.
